Overview

Samoens  is a charming historic village, full of character and tradition. The skiing is excellent with the town full of lovely runs through the trees and linking to the extensive and varied Grand Massif area.

SAMOENS SKIING & BOARDING

Samoens makes up part of the big, varied Grand Massif ski area with great skiing for intermediate and advanced skiers with plenty of challenging runs and powder opportunities. There are many tree-lined runs around the resort, so skiers have some interesting and diverse terrain which also provides a perfect contrast for when the weather comes in.

The skiing is just a short bus ride away to the two gondolas to the slopes. Most of the skiing is above the village below the Tete des Saix. A six-person chair lift takes you up to the Tete de Saix and from there you can ski down towards Flaine or the slopes around Morillon or Les Carroz. The slopes above Samoens are north facing so snow reliability is good and the slopes are particularly good for intermediate and advanced skiers.

SAMOENS for beginnersThere is a special pass for beginners who go up to 1600 where there are gentle, snow-sure slopes. There are also nursery slopes at Sixt.

SAMOENS the resortThe resort has more character than most French ski resorts, with narrow lanes and medieval buildings. the town was formerly a base for stonemasons and this history can be seen throughout the village. The village has a pretty square and many car-free streets, a fine church and many old buildings. The nightlife is on the quieter side but you should find enough bars to keep you going for a short break.
