Location

The Grand Massif ski area is comprised of Flaine, Samoëns, Morillon, Sixt and Les Carroz, totalling 265km of pistes, the majority of which are north facing, leading to great snow conditions.

Samoens is an attractive, traditional village - once a thriving centre for stonemasons, with their work much in evidence.

The centre of the resort is traffic free, with an enticing range of independent food shops, alongside broader shopping opportunities as well as a historic 16th century church.

Though not quite as centrally located as some others in the Grand Massif, many see the trade off as worthwhile for a more enjoyable base.

Samoens for Beginners

There is a special pass for beginners who go up to 1600 where there are gentle, snow-sure slopes. There are also nursery slopes at Sixt.

About Samoens

The resort has more character than most French ski resorts, with narrow lanes and medieval buildings. the town was formerly a base for stonemasons and this history can be seen throughout the village.

The village has a pretty square and many car-free streets, a fine church and many old buildings.

The nightlife is on the quieter side but you should find enough bars to keep you going for a short break.
