Ski Tignes - Ski Resort Guide

Tignes joins with neighbouring super resort Val D'Isere to give you one of the most famous ski areas in the world , Espace-Killy, Tignes continues to be high up on every ones wish lists of places to ski. Tignes itself is made up of a series of small hamlets, Le Boisses, Le Brevieres, Val Claret, Le Lavachets with Le-Lac  seen as the principle village.

Don't be deceived by the high rise buildings and housing estate feel of Tignes and remember that beauty is only skin deep! This high altitude skiing area is regarded as one the most beautiful places to ski in France with more than enough on offer to keep even the most discerning skier racing to catch the first lift everyday.

If you really can't see past the architecture of Le-lac then fear not, the answer is Tignes Les Brevieres which is exceedingly pretty and although doesn't have the ski-to-door guarantee that Tignes Le  boasts, is home to a very efficient Gondola which will whisk you up to the top in no time.

Where to Party?

Tignes' partner in crime, Val D'Isere tends to hog the lime light a little when it comes to Apres ski, but here in Tignes there's still plenty to choose from  with prices slightly more forgiving on your wallet. There are in fact 53 bars and 4 night clubs but if this isn't enough for you then there is a free bus that shuttles late night revellers between Val and Tignes' numerous hamlets. We have selected a few of our favourites to keep you busy while you're there.

Saloon Bar
New for this season, this bar has counter parts in val D'Isere and val Thoren. Expect the same hedonistic craziness with generous lashings of cocktails. Happy hour on beers between 4 and 6pm, on cocktails between 8 and 10pm. Good cheap and cheerful burgers and hotdogs and a pool table.

TC's
Located in le Lavachets, TC's is perenially popular with seasonairres. Shows all major sporting events, full English brekkie on Saturdays, has wifi and internet access plus sells Mutzig, everyones favourite lager! Also try their vast array of flavoured vodka shots which are probably the main cause of mad parties that normally end the night here.

Le Lavachets Lounge
For those wanting a more chilled and laid back evening, step next door from TC's into this cozy welcoming Lounge bar. Internet access, magazines and board games, all day food menu and a cocktail list. Happy hour 4-6.

Alpaka Cocktail Bar
Situated almost next door to the Chalet Lavachey - this is a first choice for a beer or cocktails, as it has over one hundred to choose from and free house shots on Sundays nights. Monday night is champagne night with good deals on their bubbly. Another plus is it has one of the longest happy hours in Tignes running from 4-8 everyday. Check out their live music nights or just pop by and chill with a board game and a bunch of pals.

Le Loop Bar
recently refurbished with deep sofas and an open fire for cold days and a stunning sun terrace overlooking the lake for catching some rays, Le Loop is fast becoming one of the best night spots in Tignes. 2-4-1 drinks between 4-6pm, well mixed cocktails, live music and Djs playing well into the early hours.

Le Brasero
Found at the bottom of Piste des Digues this is a lively apres ski joint which also doubles up as a great lunch spot during the day - great deals include sandwich, chips, salad and a drink for only 10 euros. It's main attraction is it's live music nights 4 times a week and cheap set menus.

Drop Zone Cafe
A must for extreme sports fanantics, this cosmopolitan cafe bar attract big name Djs and has a huge south facing sun terrace, come and enjoy a well deserved beer for 3.50 euros during happy hour (3-6pm). Find this uber-cool venue in Val Claret.

Couloir
Very funky vibe, Scandinavians love it hers, as do....well most people to be honest. Their mojitos are amazing and the vodka shot menu always proves popular. The music is always top notch, find the Couloir in Val Clarets near Drop Zone Cafe.

Melting Pot
This is probably the best discotheque in Tignes, attracts big name Djs especially if there's a comp on and the pros are in town. No disco cheesiness here - hip hop, ska, drum'n'bass and dance. Happy hour early on with girls sometimes scoring free champers, although prices aren't too bad for a night club.

Blue Girl
For those who would prefer some harmless Euro trash style fun then Blue girl will be right up your street. One of those cheesy places that most people don't admit to liking but everyone loves deep down. Just try and stay away from the pole if you want to keep any scrap of integrity!

Jacks Club
Another cheeky/cheesy hang out. Just replace the Euro pop with disco music from the 70's and 80's and you've got Jacks Club. You either love it or you hate it, which is all part of the charm.

Where to Eat?

Le Caveau
One of the loveliest restaurants in Val Claret, very atmospheric and stylish - good place to go for a special occasion, quite expensive but well worth it. Try the set menus for something a little lighter on the wallet then sit back with a night cap listening to the in house blues band. Excellent specials board too.

Saint Jacques
For another top end of the budget treat head for St Jacques. As the name suggests, oysters and mussels are the speciality with Belgain dishes thrown in alongside fondue dishes. If you're a bit of a beer buff then this is the place to go, serves Quak beer which apperently is even better than the famed Mutzig.

Couloir
If you really feel you can't face another night of savoyard fare with the lingering smell of raclette cheese at every turn then the Vouloir is quite a refreshing change. Promoting a world wide menu it offers dishes such as Tuna, Morroccan lamb and even kangaroo. Prices are pretty reasonable too.

Clin d’Oeil
For typical French cuisine then this really has to be you  number one choice. Excellent wine list with an intimate atmosphere this is definitely romatic evening for two territory. Set menu prices are 35euros for three courses, 26euros for two and 16euros for one course.

Rendez-vous
In the heart of Le lac, Rendez-vous is , as the name suggests, perfect for group bookings, simple delicious menu full of the usual comfort food– steaks, pasta and good choice of pizzas.

La Ferme des 3 Capucines
The Alps are littered with traditonal style restaurants flying under the name of La Ferme, this one actually is a genuine bona fide farm. It's everything you would want for a rustic alpine culinary adventure. Find it at lavachets.
