Ski Les Gets - Skiing in Les Gets
Main photo: Skiing in the powder of Les Gets, just above the ranfolly bowl.
Which slopes?
Les Gets itself is split into two sections, the Chavvannes Bowl with a wide range of slopes for all abilities and Mont Chery with lovely cruising blues and reds and a brilliant beginner fun park. You can buy a lift pass for Morzine/Les Gets only and still find plenty to do but you are in the expansive Portes du Soleil ski area and it would be a shame not to take advantage of that.
Chilled out
If you’re out with a group of mixed abilities head for the Chavannes bowl. Blues, reds and blacks all end up in the base of the bowl where you have the choice of 5 lifts to take you back up. On a sunny day Mont Chery is perfect for a picnic by the park for those who want a taster on smaller kickers and rails. The plateau at the top of the Chavannes bubble is great for regaining forgotten confidence with plenty of mountain restaurants to replenish your strength
Tree lined
Take the Chavvannes Express up and come down a lovely sheltered blue ‘Violettes’.
The Orchis is a little more demanding, take the TC des Chavvannes up for this or for off-piste enthusiasts come down under the telecabin winding through the trees, look for somewhere not too tracked out as you go up the bubble.
Challenging;
Mont Chery doesn’t get as much use as it deserves due to having to cross the road,
resulting in excellent piste conditions and traffic free slopes. Take the Lievre , a red down to TS des Planays or the Bouquetin, a steep black down from the top of Grande Ourse. Two black mogul runs, Mouflon and Chevreuil face north hence better conditions for longer. Back over in the Chavannes bowl try the Yeti and Myrtilles two steep mogul packed runs that will test the best.
Mountain Restaurants
Restaurants here are relatively basic but cheaper than most. As the village itself is at the bottom of the pistes the village itself is quite often used as a lunch stop meaning all of the above restaurants are available too. You do have the whole of the Portes du Soleil to find yourself some sustenance throughout the day but here are a few local to Les Gets.
La Rossetaz at the top of the Rosta chair serves huge baguettes filled with burgers and fries – exactly what’s needed to replace those lost calories!
Le Grande Ourse on Mont Chery has an unusual menu to say the least, Cornish sausages or Lobster tartiflette anyone?
Les Lhottys at the top of Nauchets is basic and usually busy but the prices are good and the service is excellent.
