Chamonix Overview
Chamonix is home to Europe’s highest mountain, Mont Blanc, and is one of the most snow-sure resorts in the world with 90% of its slopes above 2000 metres. It has very firm roots in mountaineering history and is steeped in tradition with a fascinating culture.
As one of the most internationally famous world ski destinations, Chamonix offers an unprecedented level of ski facilities whilst also being a very popular tourist attraction for non-skiing visitors.
Chamonix Skiing
Every aspiring Skier and boarder will have heard of the famous Chamonix Valley, and many will have travelled from far and wide to sample its legendary mountain. See our guide to Skiing in Chamonix.
Chamonix naturally has a huge variety of expert-level terrain and powder descents, but as a premium resort it offers just as much skiing and boarding for the beginners and intermediates too.
The 3 main satellites of Chamonix each offer as much as a 100kms of terrain which is still bigger than many an independent resorts total ski area. An efficient shuttle connects weekend skiers with a new mountain for every day of their stay – however many choose to stay in the larger “Brevant and Flegere” ski area which is located a very short walk from our chalets and hotels.
Chamonix Beginners
Chamonix has one of the most organised and professional English speaking ski schools in the Alps and in spite of its expert and intermediate level skiing also offers beginners excellent choice on well kept nurseries and a network of interconnecting green runs. Progressive learners can safely trek further a-field and make use of the wider ski area which offers much easy skiing.
Chamonix Ski Resort
Chamonix is a very cool, chic and vibrant mountain resort with as many sights and attractions to entertain non skiers. It is a great destination for packing as much into your weekend as possible; and the nightlife is of course unrivalled in other resorts! The buzzing resort centre offers pretty pedestrianised streets, boutique shopping, cafés and wonderful eateries to suit all.
Getting There
Chamonix is one of the more accessible resorts with Geneva which is just 53 miles away. Chambery is only an hour and a half drive away and Lyon, another option is 137 miles away. There is a direct train from Paris with TGV which is probably the most hassle free way of doing it, but it is not cheap and can take 8 hours. Arguably the quickest and cheapest method is to fly and we do some great all inclusive weekly and weekend ski packages with flights!
For self travellers, transfers can be costly but there is a reliable regular bus service from Geneva airport, otherwise plenty of taxis if you can split the cost with friends.
