The magic of the French Alps. There is no place like it anywhere in the world. This is why year after year ski enthusiasts return to be a part of it, if only for a week or two...

The tiny Heidi-esque alpine villages, majestic medieval towns and deliciously rustic farming villages all combine to take the traveller completely away from the grey dreary humdrum of every day life.

It becomes an addiction for many of us, especially while the days are at their shortest and most of us are suffering from severe light and space deprivation. Even in today's economic climate, the annual Mecca to the Alps is not something we would willingly give up.

For those who haven't yet experienced the sheer unadulterated feeling of freedom you get from standing at the top of a mountain with a vista of white peaks and blue skies unfolding as far as the eye can see, then what are you waiting for?

Skiing France will suit all budgets

Whatever your budget, there are plenty of options available. Whether it's five star luxury or a tiny studio apartment we all get to experience the same views, ski the same slopes and drink in the same apres ski bars... I have had some of my best ski holidays in the most basic accommodation which always has a majestic mountain view and plenty of warm water!

Travel

Flying is by far the most popular method. Budget airlines and charter planes rented by Tour Operators have made the experience easy and inexpensive, especially out of peak season dates.

Driving is also still a popular method, especially in peak dates where one can save a car load of flight costs! Even with petrol in France not being the bargain it used to be, driving can save you a fortune. It also means you can stock up on all the essentials we Brits seem to need only when we can't get them like marmite, cheddar cheese and baked beans. Although the kids will miss out on the social scene which a hotel or catered chalet provides, it is convenient to have the use of your own personal kitchen when travelling with a family.
